Magnetic Words

I was reading something about a city in Nicaragua where only the main streets have names…all the others are found on the basis of some strange law of direction giving. Long story. (If you’re really interested in knowing more, check out the Granta blog)….anyway it made me wonder what poem I would get if I joined the titles of the books that were on my bookshelf and the result was interesting….well for the first six books at least. There seemed to be a strange symmetry in the thematics of the titles that seemed kind of beautiful. Here are the first six titles on my bookshelf.

One Hundred and One

One Hundred Years of Solitude

A Man of the People

Venus as a Boy

The Living and the Dead

Bang-Bang, You’re Dead

The rest didn’t really make anything too exciting, save for a couple like A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man/Exquisite Pain or Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage/Varieties of Exile. Anyway, if you’re bored and you have some time to kill or you should be doing work but just don’t feel like it, then do what I just did and see what you come up with. Might work with the titles of movies too….
